Amelia M. Smith

September 15, 1933 - December 28, 2020

Amelia M. Smith, 87, of Rockwood; passed away on Monday December 28, 2020 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville after a long illness. She was born September 15, 1933, in Gloversville a daughter of the late Salvatore and Katherine Frances Evangelist Tortorello Sr. Mrs. Smith was employed at the former Johnstown Knitting Mill for many years until her retirement in 1996. She was an avid collector of bears, loved going on trips to casinos and was very family oriented. On October 26, 1951 she was united in marriage to Thomas Smith Sr. of Gloversville and he passed away on June 22, 2020. Survivors include one son Thomas (Deborah) Smith of Gloversville; one daughter Sharon A. Hulbert of Dolgeville; four grandchildren Gene R. Hunt, Patricia A. Varvaro, Chad Smith and Jessica Smith; eight great grandchildren Nicole Noel Hunt, Gabrielle Smith, Zachary Smith, Aaron Sowle, Gavin Smith, Blayke Sowle, Amelia Ambrosino and Camden Smith; one great great grandson Carter and one great great granddaughter Leighton; nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Salvatore Tortorello, Anthony Tortorello, Jenny Sturgess and Ruth Stefanski and one great grandchild Adriana Gene Varvaro. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday January 2, 2021 from 11 am until 1:00 pm. at A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Wells Nursing Home Activities Dept., 201 W. Madison Avenue, Johnstown, New York 12095.
