Peter S. DeBlock Jr.

January 12, 1943 - August 8, 2021

Peter S. DeBlock, Jr. of Fonda passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Born on January 12, 1943, in Goshen NY, he was the son of the late Peter S. DeBlock, Sr. and Grace "Betty" (Sadler) DeBlock. Growing up on a dairy farm in New Hampton, NY, Pete joined the Creeden Hill 4-H Club at age 11 and showed his first calf at the Orange County Fair. This ignited in him a lifelong passion for registered Holstein dairy cattle. He was a lifetime member of both the National Holstein Friesian Association and the New York State Holstein Friesian Association. In high school he joined the FFA, was the chapter president, and was also Senior Class president of the Class of 1961, the first graduating class of Minisink Valley Central School. He also held offices in the New York State FFA and won the state public speaking contest. He graduated from Cornell University where he participated in the dairy judging team. Pete proudly served in the U. S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He then worked for many years for the R. Austin Backus Cattle Auctioneers Co., Mexico NY until retiring due to disability. He was a member of the Saving Grace Baptist Church, Fonda. Pete was proud of his Dutch heritage and passionate about DeBlock family genealogy. A trip to Holland seeking out the birthplaces of the family was one of his cherished memories. He is survived his sister, Lois Knapp (Ted) of Gloversville; half-sister Patricia Brown, Saranac Lake NY; a special Aunt, Marge DeBlock; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many good friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 13, 2021, at 6:00 PM at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Interment will be on Saturday August 14, 2021, at 12:00PM at the Ridgebury Cemetery, 12 Ridgebury Hill Rd, Slate Hill, NY 10973.
