Philip W. Jaros Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Our community mourns the passing of Philip Walter Jaros, age 83, on March 28, 2021 following surgery at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Philip grew up in Bridgeport, CT attending Barnum Elementary School and Harding High School where he took engineering and design courses. After graduating in 1956, he entered the United States Army where he worked as a laboratory technician in Fort Rucker, Alabama. From there his family moved to Gloversville, NY where he spent 15 years designing accessories for boats at N.A. Taylor. His career continued at White Mop Wringer Co. for 20 years as he worked to convert metal products into plastics. In his younger years Philip was an avid walker and treaded many miles walking and socializing with his neighbors in Meco where he built his home. Philip was also a passionate outdoorsman as he spent countless hours camping, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends. He enjoyed many years of vacationing on the beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. In recent years, he spent his time painting birds, flowers, fish, and other wildlife in watercolor, which he enjoyed giving to family and friends, as well as entering local art shows. Philip is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bonnie Jaros, two daughters: Deborah McGillis and Stacie DiMezza (Michael); two sisters: Janette Chapin (Paul) and Patti Shibley (David); sister-in-law Sandra VanSlyke (Charles); a brother-in-law Garth Bruce (Linda); his grandchildren: Leanne Hansen (Kris), Nicholas DiMezza, Jon-Michael DiMezza, and Trevor DiMezza; five great-grandchildren: Jacob Keller, Nicholas DiMezza Jr., Memphis and Kamryn Meher, and Kristopher Hansen; one great-great-grandchild, Emberlynn Keller, and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter: Denise Jaros; grandparents: Mary and Alfred Valachovic; parents, Walter and Sophie Jaros; sister, Marilyn Jaros; brother, Floyd Valachovic; Uncle, Alfred Valachovic, and his nephews: Thomas Valachovic and Floyd Valachovic Jr. The family would like to thank the ER, ICU, and third floor staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital for their care and compassion during his final days. A period of visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc, 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown. Social distancing guidelines must be met, and face masks are required. A graveside service will be on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, 296 Martin Rd, Fonda, NY 12068. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in his memory to the Meco Volunteer Fire Dept., 1600 State Highway 29A, Gloversville, NY, 12078.
