Rhoda L. Jurica

March 30, 1925 - April 18, 2019

Rhoda L. Jurica, age 94 of Johnstown, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 30, 1925 in Northville, a daughter of the late Joseph Lado and Rhoda Craig Lado. Rhoda was a graduate of Northville Central School and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She graduated from the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Jurica received both her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Syracuse University. Rhoda worked for many years as the School Nurse and Teacher for the Greater Amsterdam School District until her retirement. Mrs. Jurica was of the Catholic faith. She was an avid reader and spent many winters in Delray Beach, Florida. As a proud alumnus, Rhoda cheered on her Syracuse Orange and enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, traveling and played bridge and many other board games. She is survived by her one son William Jurica, one daughter Dorothy Laird (Robert); grandchildren Lori Albanese (Aaron), Michael Lundquist (Kaitlyn Van Derbeck), Jillian Jurica (Nate Bendict), Matthew Jurica (Dr. Bethany Hawke), Ashley Jurica and Marybeth Jurica; great grandchildren Aidan, Skyler, Sierra, Blaise, Jack, Bentley, Grant and Melanie and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jurica is predeceased by her husband Blase M. Jurica, Sr. whom she married on October 4, 1947 and whom passed on January 8, 2010, one son B. Matthew Jurica, Jr. whom passed on May 15, 2018 and one sister Virginia Stringham who passed on January 8, 2010. Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Johnstown. Contributions in Rhoda’s memory may be made to the Johnstown Public Library, 38 S. Market Street, Johnstown, New York 12095.
