Russel Dettenrieder Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Russel Dettenrieder, age 74, of Johnstown, NY, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. Born on June 4, 1947, in Gloversville, NY, he was the son to the late Zigfried and Josephine Dettenrieder. Russel graduated from Broadalbin High School in 1965. He attended SUNY Cobleskill for two years and Plattsburg graduating with a bachelor’s degree in food service. He was also in the Peace Corp in the Philippines for two years. Russ worked at the White Holland House and the Tryon School for Girls and Boys as a chef in one of their facilities for 9 years. He was a longtime member of the Eagles and Concordia Club where he served on the board. Russ was also the past president of the Fulton County Liquor Dealers. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Broadalbin, NY. He was a member of the choir at church and sang with the Mohawk Valley Chorus. In his spare time, he enjoyed music, and now he will be singing in the choir with the angels. He married his beloved wife of 47 ½ years, Dorothy (Bradt) Dettenrieder on September 13, 1974, who survives. Together, they purchased the Rockwood Tavern and ran the restaurant for 23 years. After selling the Tavern, Russ and Dotti did catering together. Russel is also survived by his brother, Paul (Connie); sister-in-law, Sharon; niece, Gretchen; nephews, Shawn, Mark, Scott; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Russ is predeceased by his brother, Douglas and nephew, Eric. Russ will be truly missed by his wife, family, and many friends who knew him and loved him. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph’s Church, 7 North St, Broadalbin, NY 12025. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Russel's memory may be made to the Brennan Humane Society, 437 9 Mile Tree Rd, Gloversville, NY 12078 or the American Cancer Society.
