Ruth Mae Becker

July 8, 1947 - April 25, 2022

Ruth Mae Becker, age 74, of Fonda, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2022, at her home with her loving husband by her side. Born on July 8, 1947, in Mertztown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Sadie (Schlegel) Reinert. As a youth, she attended Salem Bible Church in Macungie, PA, where her pastor instilled in her to “Ruthie tell the Truthie." In 1965, she graduated from Brandywine High School in Topton, PA. Ruthie, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Allentown Hospital in Allentown, PA. She also worked in a special needs hospital in NJ and related to many friends how, one night while delivering medicine to the patients, one patient, a 12-year-old, was eager to help Ruthie by carrying the water pitcher. This worked well until he stopped in the middle of the hall, smiled at Ruthie and proceeded to turn the pitcher over spilling the water all over the floor. He then laughed and laughed at the joke he pulled on his nurse. Ruthie was involved in arranging bus trips to Women of Faith Conferences and a member of the Women’s Ministry at Grace Fellowship Church in Latham, NY. She loved to sing and was an excellent soloist and choir member in her church and other singing groups. Growing up, she was asked to sing at many of the weddings of her high school friends. At home, Ruthie enjoyed flowers, both indoors and outside. She took great care in designing the garden spaces around her home. She was also a talented decorator; making the curtains by hand (took sewing lessons in her teens), wallpapering the walls, and color-coordinating everything to make a warm and inviting home where she also enjoyed entertaining guests and hosting family and friends. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family and the grandchildren who called her Oma. She married her loving husband, Thomas Becker on July 9, 1977, who survives. Ruthie is also survived by her children, Matthew Becker (Shanna), Joshua Becker (Alissa); sisters, Elaine Gothe, Corine Measler (Harvey); grandchildren, Jordan, Isla, Zoe, Sadie, Adelaine, Lucas, Caden. In addition to her parents, Ruth is predeceased by her sisters, Marion Butscher, and Jane Reinert. A Celebration of Life Service for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 1:00 PM, at the Grace Fellowship Church 20 Delatour Road, Watervliet, NY 12110. A live stream of this service will be available at gracefellowship.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 18 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY, 12078, or Life Savers Ministries, PO Box 407, Gloversville, NY, 12078.
