Susan G. D'Amore

September 2, 1947 - May 22, 2019

Susan G. (Rathburn) D’Amore passed away at Mountain Valley Hospice on May 22, 2019 after a long illness. Sue was born in Gloversville, NY on September 2, 1947 to Mildred Rathburn and her husband the late Gaal Rathburn. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1965 and married her love, Carmelo D’Amore on August 19, 1967. Sue’s joy in life was her children and grandchildren. An accomplished amateur artist, she was a lifelong creative force producing pencil drawings, quilts, clothes, dolls, cross stitch, miniature models, knitting and crotchet. All produced with refinement and the highest levels of craft. Unbeknownst to many, Sue was an avid reader and deep thinker with an abiding interest in local history and genealogy. Her purpose in life was the care and nurturing of her kids and pets. Her job was taking care of Carm. If you know him, you understand this. Sue is survived by her husband Carmelo and two children, David (Virginia) D’Amore, Daniel (Tory) D’Amore; four grandchildren, Augustus D’Amore, Azya D’Amore, Cecelia D’Amore and Skylar D’Amore; one brother David (Kim) Rathburn; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Phyllis Martin and father Gaal Rathburn. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7pm, Thursday, May 30, at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown. A funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Friday, May 31 at the St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1 N. Market St., Johnstown. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Mountain Valley Hospice, Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
