Wendell (Bud) A. Powers Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Wendell A. (Bud) Powers, 88 of Star Lake, New York passed away on February 6th, 2022. He was predeceased by his mother Myrtle E. Powers Whitcomb (Arroway), and his father Alfred W. Powers, stepfather David A. Whitcomb and step-brother David W. Whitcomb. He is survived by his wife Alma Powers (Coffin) and their son Eric Powers, step children Brian (Cristina) Pickett, Jeffrey Pickett, Tracy Pickett, Sharon Pickett(Hatfield), Barbara (George) Brown, two granddaughters and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by children from his previous marriage: Michael J. Powers, Becky Powers (Engels), Theresa Powers, Joseph Powers, Sandra Powers and Wendy Powers, Also surviving are his sister Patricia Gray (Powers), nephews Rick(Diane) Stevens, Jeff (Ellen) Stevens and Albert Gray. Bud graduated from Baldwinsville Academy where he lettered in football and basketball. After high school, Bud attended New Mexico State University on a football scholarship. While in college he was drafted into the United States Army where he served honorably from 1953 - 1955 in Germany. After his discharge, he worked at Hudson-Mowins in Baldwinsville and New York Telephone in Syracuse where he enjoyed a successful career until his retirement. Shortly after retirement Bud and Alma relocated to Sevierville, Tennessee where they resided until returning to New York in 2015. In addition to his love of sports, Bud loved antique cars and over the years had many beautiful cars he enjoyed showing throughout the northeast with some of his vehicles winning 1st place at many shows. He was especially proud of his 1961 white Corvette with red interior. He enjoyed visiting his old friends in Baldwinsville when he could and loved spending time with friends in the Great Smoky Mountains and the Adirondacks. Bud especially enjoyed animals and cared for many during his life; he and Alma enjoyed caring for Border Collies in need of rescue. Bud was a kindhearted man, a wonderful father and grandfather and loving husband and friend to everyone. He will be missed. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse, NY April 29, 2022, at 1:00PM. Donations to the ASPCA can be made in Buds memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G.
