The A.G. Cole Funeral Home was founded in 1929 by Adelbert G.Cole at 404 North Market Street.  The business moved to its present location on East Main Street in 1933 and Mr. Cole was joined in the running of the business in 1946 by his son Alan E. Cole. The business was incorporated in 1971 following extensive renovations which included a front porch enclosure. It was purchased  in 1992. by current owner Nicholas A. Cannizzo, Jr.  Mr. Cole still assists with funeral services bringing more than 65 years of expertise and caring to the residents of the area. The Barter and Donnan Funeral Home was founded in 1944 as the Donnan Funeral Home located at 25 North Perry Street.  The Frederick Barter Funeral Home was purchased by Edward Donnan in 1969 and the two merged in 1975 and were located at 1 North Melcher Street in Johnstown.  Mr. Donnan continued to assist with funeral services sharing his more than 40 years of experience until his passing on April 8, 2015.

Nicholas is a lifelong area resident having graduated from Johnstown High School and later received an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Mortuary Science from Hudson Valley Community College. He has been in the funeral business since 1991 serving the residents of the Fulton County area with pre-arrangement and funeral services. He purchased the A.G. Cole Funeral Home in 1992 and later acquired the Barter and Donnan Funeral Home in 2009. Nicholas is a member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association serving as the State Director for Region Six which covers the Capital District and Fulton-Montgomery County areas; the National Funeral Directors Association; Johnstown Knights of Columbus District 239 where he serves as Financial Secretary; President of the Ferndale Cemetery Association; Member of Holy Trinity Parish in Johnstown; Member of the Johnstown Moose Club; and the Amsterdam Elks Club. Nicholas and his wife Kimberly reside in Johnstown and have two children.

Alan is a lifelong resident of the Johnstown area. He graduated from the Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science following service with the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduation from Johnstown High School in 1947. He joined his father in the running of the family business in 1946 and dedicated his life to comforting area residents and helping them to cope with grief during their time of loss for more than 65 years. During his career he was active in Kiwanis, the First Baptist Church, Red Cross, served as Third Ward Supervisor in the City of Johnstown, and on the board of the Johnstown Cemetery Association among others.

Mr Donnan worked at the Barter and Donnan Funeral Home for over 40 years since the time it was started by his father in 1944 at 25 North Perry Street in Johnstown as Donnan Funeral Home. After his father's death in 1969, Donnan continued operating the funeral home, and bought the Frederick W. Barter Funeral Home in 1975, when the two homes were merged into the present location.
